Parking & Pavement Survey Results 2004

The Chamber of Commerce distributed a Parking and Pavement Survey to shops and businesses in Church Road, Westow Hill and Westow Street and adjoining roads during April 2004 and we received 42 responses.

The key results were:

  • nine out of ten traders have a problem with parking and want more parking spaces
  • three in four traders think we should have less double yellow lines
  • two thirds of traders are opposed to a residents parking scheme
  • nine out of ten traders think we need a north/south pedestrian crossing at the Gipsy Hill junction and cars should be allowed to turn between Central Hill and Gipsy Hill
  • two thirds of traders think that street begging and vagrancy is affecting their business
  • nine out of ten traders would like to see more police officers on patrol
  • three in four traders think we need new public toilets and better street furniture

The information we collected will be used as a 'shopping list' for our Town Centre Management. The Chamber of Commerce will use the information to determine key issues and work out our agenda of how to achieve the improvements the traders have asked for. We will work hard to ensure that these findings are communicated to the people and organisations that can help improve our area.

Parking & Pavement Survey 2004

What do you think of Crystal Palace? Has it improved? Could it be better? The Chamber of Commerce is conducting a Parking and Pavement Survey to find out what you think about our local area and what needs to be done so that residents, traders and visitors can enjoy the way we use it. The information we collect will be used to inform our local councillors of our point of view but also as a 'shopping list' for our Town Centre Management. We want to tap in to your expert knowledge of what is on your doorstep and get down to the nitty gritty.

We want to hear about the things you notice and affect your immediate environment. We don't want general sweeping statements. So for example tell us where there is a pothole, a broken street sign or an area that is hazardous or unsightly. Is there space for another parking bay, are waiting times too short, is another bin needed, do vehicles park on the pavement and obstruct pedestrians? Try to focus on the small details as well as the bigger picture and if your suggestion affects other users consider their point of view. Thank you for your support!
