4. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT

Doug apologised for the lack of his Chairman's notes at this meeting. This was due to a major PC crash encountered just as the notes were being written.

John Boulton (Hon. Treasurer and Membership Secretary) had been seriously ill before Christmas, but was now on the mend. The Chairman had spoken to him recently and he hopes to be at meetings in the near future. The Chamber extended its condolescenes to Caroline Streek (Quality Hotel), on learning that her husband had died in December.

5. DAVID KERR - TOWN CENTRE MANAGER

Unfortunately, David Kerr was unable to attend the meeting. Comments were then taken from the floor regarding the latest developments in the area. John Ellner (Joannas) commented that the area had been designated a District Centre and that it had always been the Chamber's view that whatever development took place they should integrate with the Triangle and that the views of local councils should be sought in support of this concept. A combined council approach to examine the car parking situation was what was called for. Very little parking was available in side roads surrounding the Triangle.

Ian Ward (I W & S A Ward) was concerned about the impact of the proposed (clockwise) one-way system that is to be introduced shortly. A previous attempt had been tried and it had failed miserably. What was to prevent another debacle?

Cllr. Pat Ryan (Croydon) wanted cars parked in a way that caused further disruption to the running of the one-way system to be towed away. A possible advantage of the one-way system was that people would have more time to shop, with parking bays provided, but it would inevitably bring more cars into the area. He called for the Chamber to provide an alternative to the L&RP plan for the top-site.

Chris Dobb (Press Officer) enquired whether the Chamber was represented on the new 'Stakeholder Forum'. The Chairman commented that Philip Kolvin of the Crystal Palace Campaign was being invited to the next meeting (6 February) to give further details of this scheme.

James Slattery-Kavanagh (Quotes) asked what the best mechanism was for eliciting members' views. He suggested that the monthly flyer could carry a question for the next meeting. A three-month trial should be instigated.

6. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

The meeting ended with informal discussion amongst the Members.
