All members and friends of the chamber are invited to join the outgoing chairman for an informal meeting and social event. There will be no official business on the agenda. Members will be free to discuss local issues on the night but minutes will not be being taken on this occasion.

I hope that members will take this opportunity to discuss their ideas on who should be elected for the vacant posts of secretary and chairman. I will be available to answer questions on what is involved but I hasten to add it is not nearly as hard as it seems. The chamber of commerce is in very good shape. It has grown significantly over the past few years and meetings are regularly attended with a healthy turnout.

There are many new and interesting local issues for the chamber to discuss in the coming year - redevelopment of the park, transport connections, the departure of Morrisons and local council elections to name just a few. I want to ensure that the new chairman and secretary get off to a good start, so I have stepped down from my post now to ensure that I can guide them into their new roles whilst I am still around. Any member can be co-opted in my place but the sooner a potential successor emerges the better, because I can then offer them my highest level of support.
